HR Manager's Guide to OutplacementConnect works with outplacement consultants from a variety of business backgrounds who all have one thing in common - a genuine desire to help people move forward.

Many of our consultants have experienced outplacement as clients or candidates, and therefore know the process from 'the other side'.

Connect matches consultants carefully to candidates, taking into account their background, experience and personal style. Whatever their background, our consultants will always take time to understand your industry and career area, to be able to give you the very best help and support.

The role of the consultant in the Connect process is:

  • To listen to candidates and help them work through problems and questions
  • To provide specialist advice on CV and letter writing
  • To help candidates identify their strengths and skills, and to work out which direction they want to take
  • To help candidates evaluate job opportunities

Consultant biographies

Here are some sample biographies of our consultants:

Catherine Price Chartered FCIPD

After graduating from York University with a degree in English and Related Literature, Catherine spent her early career in the Civil Service fast stream developing policy options and providing advice to ministers on many aspects of social and health policy. She later moved to the Science and Engineering Research Council, where she held a number of senior line and personnel management roles. She spent five years as Chief Personnel Officer of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.

Catherine has worked in the public, private and voluntary sectors and has run her own business. She works as a consultant with Connect because she enjoys using her long experience of recruitment processes to help candidates manage the job-search process and maximise their effectiveness as job applicants and interviewees.

Catherine has undertaken workshops and one to one consultancy in the last twelve months and is a highly experienced consultant.

Malcolm Arin-Strutt BA (Hons) MA MCIPD C.Psychol

A Chartered Occupational Psychologist, Career Consultant, and Executive Coach with a background spanning a number of career transitions, from Researcher in the Plastics Industry to Senior Technical Operator and Trainer in BBC TV studios, followed by charity Operations Manager and then MD of a multiple retail business. He then spent four years full time at university and began a career in management consultancy. For the last 12 years, he has specialised in outplacement, psychometric assessment and executive coaching, having assisted over 7000 managers and staff in their career development. Amongst his qualifications, Malcolm has a Masters in Organisational Analysis and Behaviour and is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and an accredited member of APECS, the Association of Professional Executive Coaches and Supervisors.

Malcolm is a senior Connect consultant who undertakes both one to one and group workshop consulting.

Annie Routledge has a BSc in Industrial Relations and has more than 20 years experience in international HR management, search and selection and assessment consultancy with Arthur Andersen, KPMG, PwC, niche consultancies and British Gas.

Annie's background is in executive search and selection, operational HR, advising organisations on the impact of change for their 'human resources' and in career consulting. She is a seasoned recruiter and career consultant, used to managing client and supplier relationships, has an excellent knowledge and understanding of the 'headhunter' fraternity and first class influencing and negotiation skills. Her consulting background gives her a very wide commercial understanding and her industry experience covers a large number of service industries including professional and financial services, distribution, retailing and utilities.
