Outplacement Case study: Closure of a scientific sector site
A scientific company based in the South of England decided to consolidate its sites and close one of its facilities, transferring its operations to another more centrally based location.
Employees were either to transfer to the new site or be offered the opportunity to take redundancy. Unusually the company decided that all affected employees should receive the benefit of career guidance and outplacement if necessary.
The Connect Team was one of several bidders to compete for the business which involved approximately 40 employees. The bidding process consisted of a number of meetings involving presentations, exploratory discussions and proposals to management. Included in the final bid was the requirement to link the fee for the assignment to a satisfaction and success based performance measurement.
Having been short-listed as a potential provider, The Connect Team was required to present to a representative staff committee of employees, who were to make the final decision on selection of the provider. Connect was successful in being chosen by the employees as their preferred provider. Amongst the reasons given for selecting Connect was their practical, pragmatic and no-nonsense approach to career change, their confidential personal attention to individual candidates' specific requirements and breadth of experience in handling such assignments.
Delivery of the programme involved several site visits by Connect using a team of experienced consultants, one to one confidential interviews with employees and regular feedback coupled with practical exercises to motivate the employees in their quest for alternative jobs. The specially prepared exercises and modules on Connect's unique website, supported by a wealth of down to earth advice helped equip all staff to move forward positively and with the appropriate skills to find alternative careers or validate their existing roles.
The process was completed ahead of schedule and with high approval ratings from the employees.
