Connect was recently selected to work with the Royal Liver Group, a household name which prides itself on a personal service and so it was virtually the last major financial service provider in the UK and Ireland to withdraw from collecting premiums on its policies from people's homes. In this day and age the case for paying by direct debit or at the Post Office was irrefutable and so Royal Liver's Home Service Representatives teams became redundant and were unable to look for another job the same as the function no longer existed in other companies. Royal Liver felt it was important to support them in their career change and knowing they had plenty of experience and transferable skills if they knew how to market them, asked Connect to design a programme that would address this particular need.

Following an extensive series of briefings and communication road shows run by Royal Liver, throughout spring and summer Connect ran the 1 day workshop 'Managing Your Future' (in conjunction with Outplacement and Retirement workshops for those that wanted them) in England and Ireland.

Managing Your Future differed from a straight Outplacement workshop (which focuses principally on how to search for and secure another job similar to your last one) in that it nailed what they enjoyed most, what was important for them in their working life and what they were best at. Using practical exercises to identify skills and competencies participants often underplayed or took for granted, they were able to identify other generic jobs to seek out, and also consider options such as working for themselves or, for some, semi-retirement. This in-depth review of their careers to date and what they wanted for their future also prepared them to sell this convincingly in their CVs and at interview.

Their feedback told us it made a huge difference to how people felt about themselves and their options for the future, and we know from experience that this confidence will carry through to impressive interviewing and a higher hit ratio of getting new positions.
